Visit a wildlife rehabilitation center.
Visiting a zoo allows your child to understand the importance of conservation and animal care. Hence, why not pay California Living Museum (CALM) Zoo a visit?
CALM is a 14-acre wildlife rehabilitation center with more than 400 species of non-releasable animals. Simply put, they only house injured animals and those that cannot survive in their natural habitat.
The rehabilitation center also houses a children’s petting zoo where they can interact and feed domestic animals.

Enroll in a STEM class.
Who says that science is supposed to be boring? First and foremost, science, technology, engineering, and math only seem dreary in class because they are presented in a highly theoretical manner.
However, when STEM is taught in an interactive way–i.e., the kids get to play and build their own Lego robots, and they are involved in the design and programming process, rather than being just a passive listener–science and numbers become a fun subject rather than a boring theoretical topic.
Engineering for Kids of Kern is one of the best learning centers in Bakersfield offering STEM-focused summer activities for young children.

Visit an indoor sports facility for kids.
Flight Adventure Park is an indoor sports facility that you and your kids will love. They have a foam pit where you can have a duel using foam equipment or airbags and 17,000-square feet wall-to-wall trampolines that include a basketball court.
Other facilities include:
- Obstacle course similar to Ninja Warriors
- Extreme Course (only for adults)
- Dodgeball on trampolines
- Three different climbing walls
If your kid is under six, you may want to visit the sports facility between 11 am and 12 noon from Monday to Saturday when the trampolines are reserved for their use, so they don’t have to worry about big kids running around. (Note: The facility allows one adult company for free.)

Enroll in a culinary class.
If your kid is a fan of MasterChef Junior or wants to learn a new skill this summer, why not enroll him in a culinary art class in Rigatoni & Robots? This center combines STEM education and cooking lessons, which is a novel approach in teaching science.
If you can’t wrap your mind around STEM lessons being combined with culinary arts, you have to remember this axiom: Cooking is an art, baking is a science.
Much like science, baking and cooking both require a standard sequence of steps and exact measurements to create an end product that is always the same.
The learning center also offers art classes that include acrylic painting, mosaic creation, and craft-making.
