Historical Sites in Bakersfield

What makes a place most impressive is its unique history. No matter how beautiful a place is, it is nothing compared to full of vibrant stories. Bakersfield is one such city. This place is filled with landmarks that offer both beauty and history.

Here are some of the historical sites you can visit during your free time!

Hayden Building

This building is located at 1626 19th Street, Bakersfield, CA, 93301.

It opened in 1904. The building is an example of the Second Renaissance Revival architectural style. The architectural team was led by the San Francisco architect Charles I. Haven.

Frank Munzer House

This beautiful piece of architecture is located at 1701 F Street, Bakersfield, CA. The house was built for Frank G. Munzer, the Office Superintendent of the Kern County Land Company. It was constructed in the 1930s, and it encapsulates the fine craftsmanship of the city’s people.

China Alley

Any bustling city has a Chinatown. It is a sign of prosperity and commerce. Bakersfield’s version of Chinatown, called China Alley, started in the 1800s. About 3,000 Chinese nationals, who went to California for the railroad construction, brought to life the beloved Bakersfield Chinatown.

Standard Oil Building

The Standard Oil Building is also known as the Jastro Building. It was built in 1917 in the Second Renaissance style of architecture.

This museum is focused and dedicated to the history of Kern County. Sitting on 16 acres of land, this museum has multiple buildings, gardens, and exhibits. There are two main exhibits in this museum – Pioneer Village and Black Gold. The first one is a collection of historic buildings related to Kern County’s history, while the other tackles the long history of the oil trade and industry of the county.
